The Bobarts Group Events

Programme for the Bobarts Group 2008:

Monday 21st July 2008 at 10.30am

Worcester College, Beaumont Street, Oxford

A tour of the gardens, to include the Provost's garden, with the Head Gardener Simon Bagnall, has been arranged by kind permission of the Provost, Mr Smethurst and the Garden Fellow, Edward Wilson. We shall see the major restoration and development work that has been done. This is an opportunity to see this garden again and in particular the restored Provost’s rose garden.

Thursday 21st August 2008 at 6pm

Rycote Park, Nr Thame, Oxon

There will be a return visit to Rycote Park by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs Bernard Taylor. We are indeed very fortunate that we are being given this opportunity to return for a fourth time to see this extensive and creative restoration of a Capability Brown park.  We can admire the work that has been done in the greenhouses and walled garden. A visit to the Chapel of St Michael built in 1449 is also included in the tour. The tour will finish with a glass of wine in the restored barn.

Wednesday 17th September 2008 at 5pm

Manor House, Great Haseley and Hill House, Shabbington, Oxon

This is a chance to visit two very interesting Oxfordshire gardens.  aria and Michael Spink have kindly invited us to see their new garden at the Manor House, designed by Christopher Bradley Hole in April 2007, before we move on to the garden of Richard and Ann Mayou who have kindly invited us to visit their former vicarage garden of one acre, developed by them over the last 15 years. We shall be offered a glass of wine during these visits.

Thursday 25th September 2008 at 3pm

Oriel College, Oriel Square, Oxford

Marjory Szurko, Librarian, has kindly agreed to show us a selection of botanical illustrations including some from the books given to Oriel College by John Jackman and from A Curious Herbal by Elizabeth Blackwell, 1739.  By kind permission of the Provost and Fellows of Oriel College, Oxford.
